Joomla awarded best Open Source CMS award PDF Print E-mail
In November 2006 Packt Publishing announced the result of it's $5000 award for the best Open Source Content Management System (CMS).  As many as 70 OS CMS had been put forward for the competition, and there was a lot of interest from the public.  We are proud to report that our favourite CMS, Joomla, won the competition just ahead of Drupal.

The 5 CMS's that went to the final were: Drupal, e107, Xoops, Joomla and Plone.  The result of the final was

  1. Joomla
  2. Drupal
  3. Plone

Packt Publishing had no influence over the vote, which consisted of 16.000 Packt users plus a panel of independent judges.  Joomla and Drupal were joint winners, and a fourth independent judge was brought in, and the scales tipped in favour of Joomla.

Here at Maxweb we are not surprised, and quite chuffed to be working with and specialising in a cutting-edge Open Source CMS.  Having discovered Joomla in the summer of 2006, we were so impressed we decided to drop everything and offer niche expertise.

The judges praised Joomla for the following points:

  • Easy install
  • Large amount of documentation available
  • Intuitive and powerfule admin interface
  • Good WYSIWYG editor
  • Scaleability and lots of customisation options
  • A large and active user community
