What is Joomla! and why is it creating a stir in the Web Design industry? Pssst! Don't tell anyone how good Joomla! actually is, otherwise we Joomla! developers get too much competition. This article explains what Joomla! can do for you.
Joomla! is a Content Management System for websites. A Content Management System (often abbreviated to CMS) is a web-based interface for managing a website and its content. Traditionally the website was created by a web designer and delivered as a set of files stored on a web server. If you wanted to add or change something on the website you normally had to either do this yourself or call the web designer back and asked them to do it for you. This was a large income stream for the web designers. You had to know a fair bit of web technology to do the job yourself. Today all this is changing. No longer do you need to know HTML, CSS, JavaScript or FTP in order to update your website. Just log in to your back-end and follow simple instructions. Adding content is not much more difficult than writing a Word document. But apart from content, what other things can Joomla! do for you? |
