Web Design in Cambridge PDF Print E-mail
If you're looking for web design in Cambridge, East Anglia, or indeed the rest of the country, then you've come to the right place. In our Internet age, face-to-face meetings are seldom necessary. We have clients from all over the world, communicating with email, chat and IP phone.

The Joomla Specialist

Maxweb has chosen to specialise in the best Open Source Content Management System available: Joomla. We do this because in our view it offers the best value for our clients. And Maxweb is all about offering value and service. We have access to industry-leading templates that automatically will give your site that wow-factor. So if you're looking for dynamic, database-driven sites that just work, let us give you a quote. We are so competitive that even other web designers sometimes use us to deliver sites.

What we don't do

We don't do fancy, flashy sites full of unnecessary gadgets and widgets. Our sites are meant to be rated favourably by search engines, and that means no Flash (apart from headers or banners).

Ideal for both small and large businesses

Whether your business is small or large, a Joomla site can meet your needs. In fact, we honestly don't see why you should bother with static sites anymore, when database-driven sites can be set up so easily. A CMS-driven site gives you many advantages:
  • Easier to maintain
  • Much better control over the content
  • Makes it easier for more than one person to publish content
  • Different levels of access
  • Makes backup of content easy
  • Layout is separate from content

Get your site converted to Joomla!

If you have an old static site that you'd like transferred to the Joomla CMS, then it might not be as expensive as you think, plus your site is probably going to look quite a lot better. Let us take all the hassle out of the transfer for you.

Webdesign companies charge too much for CMS sites PDF Print E-mail

Why are you paying more for dynamic sites?

It's because they are more complex and difficult to set up, right?  Wrong!  The truth is that such sites are as easy, and often easier, to set up than ordinary static sites.  So why are you then charged more for it?

I'm going to let you in on a little webdesign secret.  You see, webdesigners have traditionally had a nice little recurring income from clients coming back to them and asking "please can you add this to my site" and similar things.  The fact is, with CMS driven sites being so much easier to maintain from a client perspective, they now have less need to go back to their webdesigner and asking for things.  So the webdesigners think: hey, if I'm not going to have this recurring income anymore, I need to charge more as a compensation for lost income.

At Maxweb we feel that this is not very fair or transparent.  We charge for the actual work we need to do for you, resulting in low prices for advanced dynamic sites that many others charge much more for.

Where is webdesign going? PDF Print E-mail
I am becoming convinced that traditional webdesign is on its way out.  With traditional webdesign I mean someone who builds a website more or less from scratch.  This process is now being replaced by more efficient and consolidated processes in the market.  I am thinking for instance of the many CMS (Content Management Systems) now being used, and of all the website-building services offered by many hosting companies.  In fact, asking a webdesigner to make a site for you is a bit of waste of money today, it is so easy to put up a decent site yourself.

So is the webdesigner role going to die out?  No, because there will always be companies that will want that bit of extra to separate it from its competitors.  There will always be room for bespoke solutions.  But the design-from-scratch solutions are becoming more and more rare.  And this is not surprising, as websites are very much built using the same components, so there is really no need to reinvent the wheel.  Because of this the webdesigner role is changing.  Webdesigners will have to survive by offering added value with:
  • Consulting and advice on what solutions to employ
  • Vertical market (niche) solutions
  • Webmastering as websites are becoming more complex
  • Production of components and modules
