How do I install Joomla without an installation script?
The following is applicable to a UNIX/LINUX server where you have shell access. First, set up a MySQL database to be used by Joomla. Add a user with necessary privileges to this database. Follow instructions from your host, most likely there will be a way to access phpmyadmin. Get the .zip file that contains the entire Joomla installation. Transfer this file into the directory where you plan to have Joomla, most often this will be called public_html or www. You can do this using FTP or your host's file manager application. Then, using your shell acccess, write
unzip -a name-of-zipfile.zip
, obviously substituting the name for your .zip file. After it has unzipped, try bringing up your website in the browser. You should now get the first page of the installation procedure.
