I tried changing something in global configuration, but it says configuration.php is not writeable
Configuration.php should for security reasons normally not have write access, so this is for your protection. You can make the file writeable by using an FTP client like FileZilla, your host's file manager web interface if it exists, or you could install the JoomlaExplorer component. When you're done changing the configuration, you are advised to change the permission back to what it was.
